Hi Family, Summertime is here and soon it will be time for us to gather again for our annual Family Reunion in August. I am looking forward to seeing everyone and spending time together.
When I think of family, I beam with pride in respect to mine. My grandparents, Johnnie and Leatrice Pope were always so very welcoming. Their home was always open to everyone. Family could come by and stop through any day and any time and Grandma Leatrice would always make sure you ate and if you were going to stay overnight, she would make sure to find you a place to sleep. Growing up, to me, their home seemed like a big mansion on acres of land because it never felt overcrowded or out of space. I recall Grandma setting up tables outside so people could sit and eat dinner. Those were the days! All of my cousins, would run around that yard and play all kinds of games all day long! At night, we caught lightning bugs in jars (not realizing we were sending them to a slow death☹) but it was plain simple honest fun, competing with each other to see who could get the most! I recall one particularly cold Winter; Grandma showed me how to make homemade ice cream from the snow. Times are not like that anymore but the memories I have from those days, have made me who I am today which is why I love my family and I will always strive to do whatever I can, whenever I can, to keep in touch and remain in contact with my family.
The countdown is on to August 25-27 when we will see each other again and I, for one, can’t wait!
